Top Trends for Gathering in 2025: Creating Meaningful Connections
Gathering is making a big comeback in 2025. In the last couple of days, I can’t tell you how many articles and social media posts I have seen highlighting that dinner parties and intimate gatherings are returning as a cherished way to connect with loved ones. This trend isn’t just about having fun; it’s also about building community. It’s all about making everyone feel welcome and appreciated. By mixing classic hospitality with thoughtful details, gatherings are more special than ever.
In my last blog post, I talked about the five key traits of a good host. Now, let’s look at the top trends for gatherings this year and how they can inspire your next event.
1. Intentional Hospitality
This point is a quick summary of the last blog. I wanted to include it again because I’m so prone to getting caught up in the details of pulling things together rather than focusing on the why I enjoy gathering -- I had to put it here as a reminder for myself and perhaps you’re like me and need the reminder as well. But…Did you see my post at the beginning of the year about my latest read, Holy Hygge? It totally resonates with me how Holy Hygge puts it: gatherings should be intentional and centered on our guests. It's about creating a space where people feel welcome and valued. Afterall, I enjoy creating gathering opportunities because I believe that fellowship and building relationships is such an important aspect of an enriched life – it’s about the people. I need to let go of the flawlessly curated social media images and the voices suggesting that ordering pizza isn't appropriate. I must continually remind myself that hosting is not about perfection. So rather than emphasizing the food we provide, it’s about reflecting love, generosity and connection. Romans 12:13 reminds us to 'practice hospitality,' and 1 Peter 4:9 encourages us to do so joyfully. I was so excited to see so many posts and articles sharing that in 2025, hosts are embracing the idea of opening their homes to foster deeper connections. This means creating welcoming spaces where guests feel seen, heard, and cared for.
Starting your gathering with a moment of gratitude or a short prayer can really help set a warm tone. It reminds us that being together is what matters most.
2. Tablescape Storytelling
Gatherings are a great time to share stories, and your table can tell one too. This year, people are using bold colors for table settings—think deep blues, lush greens and sunny yellows. These colors bring energy and make the gathering feel lively. But it’s not just about the looks. Hosts are including items that tell a story. This could be a family heirloom or handmade decor. Choosing meaningful items makes the gathering even more special. It shows support for good causes and creates a feeling of purpose.
For centerpieces, I love keeping things simple and natural. You can forage greenery from your yard or pick up fresh flowers at the farmer’s market. Balancing the vibrant elements with neutral accents—like linen napkins or woven chargers—and you’ve got a table setting that’s both beautiful and heartfelt.
Where do you find unique items for your table settings? Share it in the comments.
3. Cozy, Comfortable Gatherings
There’s nothing like walking into a cozy space. That’s what I aim for in my gatherings: warm, inviting, and comfy.
You don’t need anything fancy to create a warm atmosphere. Soft lighting, candles, and some music go a long way. My go-to Pandora music channels are “Soft Christian Worship 2024” and "Chillout Lounge Radio”. Just picture friends hanging out, sipping warm drinks, and chatting with soft music playing. That’s the vibe that makes guests want to stay and connect.
For formal gatherings, little touches can show you care. Handwritten place cards or small gifts make everyone feel appreciated. Here are a few easy ideas:
• Mini Succulents or Potted Plants: These are eco-friendly, charming, and symbolize growth and nurturing relationships. Wrapping the pots with burlap or decorative paper adds a special touch. They can even be incorporated into your centerpiece with a "Thank you" tag or the following verse "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." — Hebrews 10:24", adding a natural and inviting element to your table.
• Gourmet Treats: Individually wrapped treats like artisan chocolates, shortbread cookies, or mini jars of local honey or jam, paired with a handwritten "thank you" note or a biblical verse such as "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8", can be a delightful surprise.
• Seed Packets: Offering packets of flower or herb seeds with a note saying, 'Plant these and watch them grow, just like our friendship,' is a gift that keeps on giving.
4. Multi-Generational Gatherings
Isn’t there something so special about getting everyone together—grandparents, parents, and kids—all around the same table? One of my favorite gathering trends for 2025 is all about celebrating these multi-generational moments, even better those that span different families and cultures. Whether it’s sharing family recipes in the kitchen, swapping stories, or working on a fun project together, these times honor the wisdom of older generations while helping the younger ones feel loved and included.
It actually reminds me of Psalm 145:4: "One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts." How beautiful is that? These gatherings give us such a sweet chance to pass down stories, faith, and traditions, creating memories that connect us in really meaningful ways.
If you’re planning something like this, try including an activity everyone can enjoy. Spend time storytelling over a board game or crafting/creating something together. For example, you could have everyone paint small terra-cotta pots or grab those mini canvas boards for an evening of painting. It doesn’t have to be fancy—it’s the togetherness that makes it unforgettable.
5. Seasonal Dining
There’s also a growing emphasis on sustainability and celebrating the seasons. Hosts are sourcing fresh, local ingredients and choosing decor that highlights the beauty of creation. Serving seasonal dishes paired with thoughtful beverages or desserts is a wonderful way to honor the time of year and delight your guests. Below are three simple sample menus that may spark some ideas for creating a “Seasonal Harvest Celebration”.
Winter Menu
Starter: Broccoli Cheddar Soup. A comforting blend of broccoli and cheddar cheese, without high-lectin ingredients.
Main Course: Beef Stew with Root Vegetables. Slow-cook beef with carrots, potatoes, and onions.
Dessert: Apple Crisp. Layer apples with a simple oat topping and bake.
Beverage: Mulled Cider (Warm apple cider with cinnamon and cloves)
Wine Pairing: A Cabernet Sauvignon (A robust Cabernet Sauvignon pairs perfectly with the hearty flavors of the beef stew.)
Winter-to-Spring Transition Menu
Starter: Citrus Salad. Mix greens with orange segments and a light dressing.
Main Course: Baked Salmon. Bake salmon fillets with a sprinkle of herbs.
Side: Cauliflower Mash. Steam or boil cauliflower florets, then mash with olive oil or grass-fed butter, and season with salt and pepper.
Dessert: Lemon Cake. Simple lemon-flavored cake with a dusting of powdered sugar.
Beverage: Sparkling Water served with a splash of fruit juice
Wine Pairing: a light-bodied Pinot Noir which will pair wonderfully with the delicate flavors of the salmon.
Spring Menu
Starter: Asparagus Salad. Toss fresh asparagus with lemon vinaigrette.
Main Course: Herb-Grilled Chicken. Grill chicken breasts with fresh herbs.
Side: Roasted Spring Vegetables. Roast baby carrots and potatoes with olive oil.
Dessert: Berry Parfait. Layer fresh berries with yogurt and granola.
Beverage: Lemon Iced Tea. Brew tea and add fresh lemon slices.
Wine Pairing: Sauvignon Blanc. The herbal notes of a Sauvignon Blanc match well with the herb-grilled chicken.
But trust me, with 2 children and a full-time job, I struggle with doing this myself sometimes. Hosting can feel overwhelming, but I’ve found that starting small helps. Sometimes, I’ve had friends over for just a seasonal hearty bowl of soup, some fresh bread, and a simple dessert. If you’re pressed for time, don’t hesitate to swing by your local bakery for a delicious treat or ask a friend to bring one. Whenever I’ve invited people over, they’ve always asked what they can contribute. Folks enjoy pitching in, so let them. It truly is more rewarding to give than to receive, so give them the chance to bless your gathering. And just like that I have an idea for my next blog :) where I’ll share creative ways to gather with friends and family. If you haven’t done so already, sign-up for our newsletter at the bottom of our homepage or connect with me on social media to get notification on when new posts are added.
In 2025, we’re reminded that gathering isn’t just about the food or decor. It’s about creating a space where people feel valued and loved. By embracing the joy of gathering, we can build connections that matter.
Let’s make 2025 the year of meaningful connections and intentional hospitality.
